My name is Brandon Hansen, welcome to my blog. Here I share my thoughts on life, business, technology, my family and what ever else I find interesting. It is a virtual buffet table of thoughts on a wide variety of subjects. I am a full time husband and father. I feel extremely blessed to have the life that I have.
How It All Began
Back in 1997, I went to what was then Ricks College (now BYU Idaho) in Rexburg, Idaho. I had recently returned from an LDS mission in Portugal Lisbon South and Cape Verde, West Africa where I spent two years sharing the gospel and teaching people about our Savior Jesus Christ. I loved the time I spent serving and the wonderful people I met. I have some amazing friends that I met during that time in my life and I will always remember them.
While the mission was a fun time in my life, I returned home ready to move to the next chapter. I had no reason to move to Rexburg to attend Ricks other than it is where my brother and sister both went the year before. That decision changed my life in numerous ways.
My Family
I was only at Ricks for one year, but in that time I met a girl who quickly became my best friend. We began “hanging out” together and we eventually got married in June 1998. We were married in the Mount Timpanogas LDS Temple in American Fork, Utah on June 11th, 1998. It was a great day, even though it rained that afternoon and we had to move the wedding reception indoors. If you ask me though, it didn’t really matter because I really didn’t get to into the whole wedding planning thing.

A lot has changed since then. Cami and I have been through many challenging, fun, and interesting times together. We have added three boys to our life and have enjoyed watching them grow up to what they have become thus far. They bring a lot of challenges to life, but we would not have it any other way. I never knew the dramatic impact that giving life to another human being could have on someone emotionally, spiritually and financially. While we are not perfect parents, we try our best to raise our boys to be upstanding young men. We strongly believe that if we do our best to set examples for them and teach them as much as we can, then they will be able to make wise decisions throughout their life.
My Working Life
My working life over the last 10 or so years has been one of learning and growth. I did not get a college degree – a decision that I regret. When I was at Ricks and Cami and I spoke about our future together, we decided to get out and begin working. My dad owned a financial planning practice and I headed home to work with him. It was a great learning experience.
I stayed with him for a while and eventually branched out on my own and began a business that taught parents of college bound kids how to get funding, scholarships and grants for college. After a while of doing that, I decided that the financial industry was not right for me and not something I wanted to be a part of the rest of my life. I kept having thoughts that I should go back to school, but 10 years of marriage and 3 kids later, that is not the easiest decision to make. I couldn’t quite decide what I wanted to do and as Cami and I thought about our future, we spoke of many possibilities.
An opportunity came up for us to interview for an out-of-state job in the software industry and we felt strongly about it. I put in an application and resume and got an interview, only to be turned down for the job. We spent over a year trying to decide what to do and eventually another opportunity came up with the same company and I re-applied and was offered a job as a Corporate Account Manager, which we accepted.
We had about a month to get the house on the market, pack up, find a place to live and get to Utah and unpack before the new job started. We went with faith that this was the right decision for our family, so off we went.
We still have thoughts that school is in our future and trust that when the time is right, it will be a decision we will be able to make. One of the good things about being here in Orem is that there are a number of options, at least compared to living in Greeley.
My Free Time
I really love to read and learn about what other people have done in their lives. I enjoy reading stories of people that have accomplished amazing things – things that boggle the mind. There is a lot to be learned from the experiences of others. I like to think that there is no limit on what a person can accomplish if they are really passionate about something. I want to live my life in a way that will have a positive impact on those people around me, especially my children. They are my main priority in life. This quote comes to mind from President David O. McKay:
“No Success Can Compensate For Failure In The Home”
I truly believe that.
I am really interested in technology and the way it can impact humanity. I am fascinated by stories of individuals and businesses that are able to change the world based on their ideas and their products. It is really exciting to me to think about the changes that I have seen in my limited time, and compare that to what my kids and grandkids will experience in their lifetimes.
