My Latest Addiction

On August 30, 2008, in Photoshop, by brandon

The first step to fixing an addiction is admitting you have one right? Well, I must admit that I am addicted to photoshop.

I got it a few months ago, but never did anything with it because I didn’t really understand it. I am still a novice in every aspect of it, but I have sat down the last week or so and figured some of it out. I also had my sister Kelsey up last night and she showed me and Cami some tricks and cool things with it.

Cami asked me today if she was going to have to limit my computer time now that I have this obsession.

I think one of the reasons I like it so much is because it is a way to reconnect with my artistic past. I love art and being creative and this is a great way to pick up that love again.

I am going to post some pictures here in the photoshop category that will show what I have done, mostly to keep track of them myself and see the progress. Feel free to take a look and comment on any of them you see.

This one was just messing around this afternoon and playing with a few of the functions and learning how they work. We really wanted to go to California this summer but never made it…or did we lol:).

Obviously there are some things that could be done better, but not too bad for a first attempt.

Playing Catchup

On August 25, 2008, in Camping, Family, by brandon

As some of you may (or may not) have read, Cami and I spent a couple weeks out of town this month. We spent some of the time in Orem at her parents house and some of the time in Bear Lake. It was our annual family reunion and we had a lot of fun with them.

I am not going to go into a lot of details, but it was a fun trip and something we will probably do every year together.  A number of years ago we talked about having something that we could do each year together. We have tried various things such as Grand Junction, Southern Utah and California. One thing is for sure, we need water and a beach. The only problem with California is that we have to drive a long way to get there.

Bear Lake, for us was perfect. It had a great beach that the kids could play in without parents worrying too much. It was warm. And it is only 3 hours from Orem and 7 hours from Colorado. The water is a really great color of blue and there is plenty to do there, although for us, we like the beach and spent three and a half days straight there.

Here are a few pictures.

58 Holes of Golf…In One Day

On August 1, 2008, in Family, Sports, by brandon

Ever since my dad turned 50, we started a tradition where we play one hole of golf for every year of his age and today we played 58 holes. It was three rounds, plus 4 extra holes.  For those that don’t know, one round usually takes about 4 hours, so we were in for a marathon day. It was a lot of fun.

We have had as many as 25 to 30 people play with us in the past and that has extended the length of time that it takes to play, so the last few years we have slimmed the umber of people that come to a more reasonable number and today we had 10 people that played. It allowed us to play in two threesomes and one group of four. The last round, someone had to leave so Jaris and I played it with just the two of us and really played fast, in about 3 hours. In all, it took us about 10.5 hours.

We started at 6:20 and were done by 4:45 or so. The weather was mostly pleasant with a breeze most of the day. There were not a lot of clouds so it got pretty hot, but we tried to stay in the shade as much as we could. Another good thing was we found a few holes where they had just mowed or the water level had decreased so we found a bunch of golf balls, but we also lost a bunch. I am not sure, but we might have about broken even. It that sense, it was a good day.

We played at the Mad Russian, in Milliken. It is a treacherous course that has tons of hills  and uneven  greens. We spent a lot of time three putting and looking for lost balls that seemed to be safe when we hit them. For the most part, it is not that good of a course, but they let us play for $1.00 per hole, including the cart. It is a great deal and we cant beat it anywhere else. They seem to be doing some upgrades to the course, but it still has a ways to go.

Here are a couple pictures.
