Do we really want these types of people representing our nations youth?
(By the way, here’s a follow up and explanation)
I am going to preface this post by saying that I am not proclaiming to be any kind of expert on this subject. I just know there are some things I can improve in my life. So with that being said, here are some ways I am trying to improve my health in 2009.
One of my goals for the new year is to loose some weight. Not that I am extremely overweight, but there is plenty of room to improve my health this year as well as drop a few pounds.
As I have thought about what my habits are and how I could easily change them to get healthier and more in shape, there are a few things I could easily change to take steps in the right direction.
So here are a few things that I am doing to get healthier. If you have any other ideas, let me know.
- Portion Control – I think this is one of the most important ways to loose, or at least maintain current weight. I know that when I sit down for dinner, it is so easy to pile more on my plate then I should. Also limit the seconds.
- Limit Sweets – When I am at my desk, or around the house, it is just as easy to grab a piece of fruit rather then a candy bar.
- Drink Lots of Water Throughout The Day – I know that it is said that you should drink 8 glasses or cups of water throughout the day. I am not sure, but I would assume it is not as good for you to drink all 8 glasses before 7 in the morning and then soda’s for the rest of the day. I could be wrong, though.
- Exercise More – One of the keys to being healthy is to exercise regularly. A couple things I do is a)ride my bike to work (not so much now that it is cold, but a good idea none-the-less). B) get a gym membership. I am working on finding the best deal in town and working out a good contract so I don’t have to pay full price (who wants to do that?) C) I am going to start running again when it gets a little warmer outside, but right now, treadmills at the gym.
- Stop Eating After 8:00 pm – This is another “good” idea. Keep in mind that it is 12:20 am and I just finished leftover baked potatoes.
Okay, these are just a few things I want to do better throughout the year.
Today is a new day. One that you will never have back. So, what are you going to do that will improve your life for tomorrow?
With the New Year upon us, it is generally a time to think about resolutions for the next 12 months. If you are anything like me, then what ends up happening is you follow through on some of your goals, maybe for a week or so. But pretty soon, you slowly drift back into normal life as it once was, no better off then you were before.
Every now and again I have set a goal and followed through on it for longer than normal. For example, one day I decided to start running. I set a goal to complete a 10k race. I thought about it for a while before hand and made a plan about how I would accomplish it. I committed myself to the plan and followed through on each step, until I ran the Bolder Boulder. It was great.
What was it about that that goal that I set that was different than others? To be honest, I have no idea.
But, none-the-less, I am going to try and set some goals this year and see what I can do to accomplish them.

I am playing with my blog and will be making a number of updates in the next week or so. If you log on one day and it is broken, it will only be a temporary problem (hopefully).
I am testing some functions and placement of a few things, some that you will see and some you will not. If everything goes as planned, then there will be no problems. But since when do website updates always go as planned?
One of the main things that will change here is the address. You will always be able to get to it by simply typing in http://brandonhansen.com. If you are subscribed to it in a reader (ie: google reader) then you may need to change the address and take off the .wordpress extension. It will probably change to brandonhansen.com/blog.
Anyways, playing with websites is really fun and I get bored of my sites easily. Every once in a while I want to change it up and I have an itch to make some big changes. If there is anything that you like about any changes, or anything that you hate, let me know. Input is appreciated.
