This is a common problem with, well, everyone. We have great intentions in life, then something comes up that derails us. Sometimes the derailment is temporary and sometimes it is more permanent.
Recently I have been dealing with a couple derailments that I am learning how to sort out. In “The War of Art” (link, not affiliate) by Steven Pressfield he refers to these derailments as “Resistance”. Resistance happens whenever we have something that we either need to get done or want to get done but something holds us back. It’s a fabulous book that I recommend to everyone… but that is another post for another day.
My particular resistance happens whenever I want to record a new video or create new content. I’m not sure of the scientific aspects of what causes it, but it sneaks in whenever I want sit down to create. More often than not I end up distracted and wasting time on much less important things (March Madness, anyone?) I also have run into an issue with my iPhone 6 (16 GB) running out of space almost every time I am recording a video. Seriously, I get half way through a video and it runs out of space. I know this is totally avoidable if I would just pony up and buy a new iPhone with better memory, but come on, I don’t have an extra $700 or more to drop on a new phone. Excuses, excuses. (I actually think I have a pretty good alternative. More on that later.)
So how does this relate to selling Real Estate?
I met with a prospective client today about their home. It recently showed up as an Expired Listing so I called them up and got a meeting. Having your home expire can be extremely frustrating for people. You start out with high hopes, expecting buyers to beat down your door with multiple offers. Then, nothing. They only got 2 showings (YES 2 SHOWINGS) in the last 6 months.
They realized just a week ago that the home had all kinds of errors with the listing on the MLS. Things like a 1 car carport instead of a 2 car garage. Seriously, these are really basic items that were messed up. They have been stuck for 6 months wondering why no one was coming to their home. They also dealt with a lack of communication from the agent.
After walking through the home and talking with them about their goals, they said they are thinking about listing it again with the SAME Realtor. What!?! Something about not wanting to have a difficult conversation with him.
They did tell me that they are willing to listen to me about other alternatives and I fully intend to win that listing. They don’t realize how bad they need my help.
When you are stuck in difficult situation, the first thing you need to do is step back and figure out what got you stuck in the first place. If you’re working with a Realtor for 6 months and they don’t sell your home, do you really want to re-list with them? You need someone with experience that can get your home sold.
You need me to sell your home for you.
Making the decision to change Realtors is can be a painful conversation to have, but this is your home and future we’re talking about. It’s business, it’s not personal. If you want to get your house sold don’t list with the same Realtor that has not sold it in the last 6 months. What do you think they are going to do differently?
As for me and my lack of content here on the site, I think I have come up with a solution. I got a new web cam that I can hook directly into my computer and bypass my phone. This also solves the problem of getting the videos from my phone to my computer. Eventually I will get a better iPhone but for now this will have to work.
What are you going to do to get un-stuck from whatever is holding you back? Get to work!
